Betts Townsend Taylor performed a long term project management function at Canal Walk Shopping Centre.

In 2009, the mandate was to deliver the Retail Pods Extension project on behalf of Hyprop Investment Limited and Ellerine Bros.

The build involved an additional 16 000m2 of Retail GLA with an approximate structured parking build of a further 50 000m², taking the total center to the largest Retail Center in South Africa to 151 000m².

The “Lanterns” as coined by the press was the 1st of it’s kind in South Africa as a strip retail offering. A very sensitive and technical build across all accesses to the existing shopping center made for a challenging interface with both public and tenants alike.
